I am probably wrong, but I was always under the opinion that 16.5 inch wheels were 8 lugs.

They make them in 5 lug, too. Rarely 6 lug also.

It's just harder to find 16.5" tires. I went to 16" on the TransVan for that reason.

They make regular 16s? I tried searching for tires for 16.5s, i found few. I might aim towards 15s with white stripes or white letter tires.

I've never seen a 16.5 in anything but an 8 lug. 16.5's are on my 2nd gen Ford E300 and also a 2nd gen Dodge B300 I have here. I just last week bought new 16.5 Firestone Transforce Radials for my Ford and it cost me just over $600 installed. Those are the only radials I could find still available.
