Post by NoBiggie Sat Apr 27, 2013 4:07 pm

Had Nostalgia Sid straighten my axle and it looks great.

    Here is before and after:

Straightened Axle is back home! Bentaxle

Straightened Axle is back home! Straightaxle

Sent it all as one piece. He took it apart, sandblasted and painted, new kingpins, bushings / bearings installed. Delivered back as shown.

Cost me $75 or so to ship.

His bill was $215 including shipping. Very happy with it.

Yeah, I am real happy with it, unfortunately my leaf springs have the center spring bolt drilled in the wrong location. 2" closer to the front than the factory.

So now, I have to take everything back off after I put them on today and try and send them back. There is no excuse for that! Eaton Springs swore up and down they made them to specs.

Sigh...two or three more weeks on the jack stand. Hopefully, I won't get screwed over by them or I will be drilling the springs. One step forward...two steps back.

Man sorry to hear that...time to pull out the measuring tape could they have been installed backwords.??? If you losen the shackels will it pivot enough. the new ones should have a larger arch in then maybe that has somthing to do with it.???? I'm thinking i'd drill new holes it them and leave the other bolts in place but my guess is it may make them weaker somehow

I thought of that, but the short side always faces the front, and the bushing was installed on the front to. The rear eye was empty to slide on the shackle. So I am sure they are right?

Don't know...confused. It does look like turned around they would be right, but the bushings would be wrong.

I know it's sunday now but what did the leaf spring company say ?? And i guess when you measure both they are close to the same leanth??? The bigest problem is once you drill them there is no returning them. (This realy sucks ) I'm sure you are pissed.

Here's what baffles me. See the old springs here:

Straightened Axle is back home! Oldleafsprings_sm

See how the short end is toward the back? The slip on shackle bushings are on the short end. The metal bushing on the long end. This means I have my new springs on backwards, and the metal bushing was put in the wrong end?

The old spring long half is 26 1/2" to the spring center bolt, the new one is 27" to the spring center bolt. So if it was turned around the axle location would be within 1/2". It has to be backwards.

That's what I was thinking when I sugested to put new and old springs side by side to see what was different. Are you able to swap the pushings to the other end, or are the eyes diifferent sizes?
