This was originally a Coca cola delivery truck and the cargo area had a 4' X 8' piece of diamond plate welded to the floor. PO also covered the whole floor (and doghouse) with spray on bedliner (mercifully it was a VERY good tape job, because it would have been a real pain if I had to remove overspray from the entry points). As such I had to build up the floor around the edges so the final layer would be perfectly flat for the hardwood.
Roof vent is from an RV supplier, with reversible multi-speed fan. PO fortunately cut the hole right where I would have wanted it anyway, making this a simple replacement for the original vent (older style and the interior trim piece was missing). I was going to paint the interior white trim ring either yellow (to match the outside paint) or flat black, but once I mounted it I think it looks pretty good as it is. Something to do down the road if I want, but for now I'm leaving it. The fan has been real nice on some days when I've been working inside and need a little more ventilation.
Lot's to do yet, but at least I have tunes now! The stereo sounds awesome! The subs under the bed area will rattle your teeth, in fact I have to dial back the settings on the stereo head or the bass can overpower everything. I may put some rigid foam insulation back there to see if I can "tune" it, but I'm not sure it will help me with some of the resonance (no rattles though!). After a LOT of thought I ended up mounting the regular speakers in the ceiling. Part of it was esthetics, but before I mounted them I wired everything up and moved the speakers all around to see where they sounded the best. A couple of spots had to be abandoned because of depth issues (like in the back doors) but I'm real happy with how it all turned out.
The seats are from a '90 Miata. I was going to recover them with a leather kit but frankly I tried painting them with upholstery paint and they came out great, so for now I'm leaving them as-is. (They were faded but otherwise in excellent condition.) These are very comfortable seats and fit well.
Fred Carello fixed me up with the carpet set for the front floor, wheel well arches and front fascia. PERFECT fit! Dash skirt was a copy someone here referred me to, and it came out very nice. Really makes a difference in how the dash looks.
I also rewired the whole thing with a Ron Francis kit. Pricy, but for an electrical first timer like me (other than stereos and household stuff) it made the whole job a breeze. I was intimidated at first, but just taking it step by step, with one wire at a time, it was pretty easy. And it's comforting for me to know EVERY inch of that wire, and where to go if something starts causing problems. Frankly this was one of the more rewarding aspects of this build. I learned a lot.
I need to figure out a way to get more air into the carb. I plan on cutting some of the air cleaner horn off and running a hose down underneath, but haven't found suitable hose, or something that would collect air underneath. Like I said, much to to, much to do...
