I'm looking for a speedometer cable for my 68 GMC Handi-Van. My van has an automatic transmission(turbo 350). The old speedometer cable is about 130" long.

    This is my van........
    Year: 1968
    Make: GMC
    Model: G1500 Handi-Van
    Sub-Model:
Style: 1/2 Ton 4x2 Cargo Van

The closest speedometer cable i have found to mine is for a 1969 G-10 Sportvan, cable is 120" long and its for an automatic transmission. Would this work on my van? Or is there a speedometer cable from a diferent van i should look for or use.

    Thanks.

Well,,,,, I am thinking that the 68's did not come with TH350 transmissions, so you would need a cable from a 69 or 70 van with that transmission or go to a driveshaft or off road shop and they will build you one,,,,,,

    Thanks Twinpilot001
    I'll check it out.
I still have my old speedometer cable...It's just cut in half.
Both ends are still in good shape.

Quick question...I have a th350 trans and I found out it's spinning the spedocable the wrong direction for the Ford speedometer. Is this a problem as well for the 60's GMC and Chev vans? OR do they already match speedometer to the rotation of a newer trans?

My speedometer spun in the right direction and worked great at one time. I have the stock GMC speedometer with a TH350 trans. The gears in my transmission for the speedometer might be custom. I'm realy not sure if it is or not.

The rear end gear ratio is what matters,,,,each different ratio has a different gear that is installed in the transmission to make the speedometer read correctly,,,,same deal if you change tire size and rims,,,,,
