radiator hose question Empty radiator hose question

Post by Rayallen Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:16 pm

guys I put in my new Champion 3row rad.and ordered my hoses.

The lower hose I ordered has a mouth of 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" which doesnt fit. Everything I have found has the same specs under Econoline, Mustang and falcon.

The champion radiator has a large mouth at the bottom and the water pump housing will fit the 1 1/4" end of the hose but not the 1 1/2" end. To me it seems as if I need a hose with both ends 1 1/4" but I cant find one.

What size lower hose do you have? Again the one im having problems with is 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 19" long.

    I ordered it from rockauto

    Any ideas?

    What size engine?

Is the radiator a universal one that happened to fit? If so, it might be made for a Chevy.

You might need to go to your local parts store and poke around until you find a hose that fits. I usually just get a universal ribbed hose of the right length. They are usually the same at both ends. Unless you're doing a restoration, it may be the way to go... cheaper, easier, and almost always in stock.

This is a 200ci motor with a New champion radiator. They fit Econolines and early mustangs. Im going to take my old hose to the parts store and see if I can match it.

They have hose adapters for those one size radiator fits anything,,,,,,Napa might have it,,,,,,it basically is a 1" long piece of the correct hose that fits on the radiator, then the bigger hose fits over it and you clamp it down,,,,,,

How about slip a 1" long piece of the old 1 1/4" on the radiator and see if the 1 1/2" hose will now fit,,,,,,

This is my main bitch about Champion radiators. They swear up and down they fit an Econoline with a small six, but they don't.

I fixed mine by cutting that lower hose fitting off and welding the proper size on. I got the right size fitting from PRC. http://www.prchotrod.com/

If you've got access to a TIG welder, or have a buddy who does, it's a pretty easy fix.
