how about these tail lights??
'61 Pontiac star chief tail lights.. they fit just inside my housings... I painted them chrome so the base looks as if it has a thin chrome ring around it... re-drilled mounting holes, and WA-LA!! instant custom tail lights... give me your thoughts???

Hmmmmm, Looking at pictures of a Galaxie from the back, the lens look way too big for the van...that picture with the thumb is pretty deceptive.

Re: how about these tail lights??
I tossed these on a couple of weeks back. I'm loving the way they look, especially with the chrome trim reverse lights below.
Note: on the set I hooked up, the red and black wires were flipped from the stock lights, so connect the red wires from the new lights to the black wires from the stock configuration [and vice versa]

Re: how about these tail lights??
Those 61 pontiac lights are very unique. Looks like little shot glasses!
Kinda cool that you didn't have to cut or do body mods to put those in. I always cringe when people cut their classic sheet metal for non-factory lights. I'd say as long as you can go back to stock, then go for it.
Bubbafrye, those tail lights look great!! Very nice.
I'd love to see your van in person some time. Its always great to meet another local vanner. Do you know about our van club, Bustin' Loose Early Vans? We need some more Econoline guys in the club!! Maybe you'll join us? We have such a great time together. Vanning season is almost here!

Re: how about these tail lights??
kooky - I sent you a PM.
lectricman - those are pretty slick. How's the chrome paint holding up? I was debating about trying it out on a few misc. details, but was a little skeptical on how it would look or last. What brand paint did you use?

Re: how about these tail lights??
I like lectricman's lights too! But not quite what I was looking for on my van. Hope I didn't jump your thread...I was just trying to find one on the subject that wasn't too recent.
Thanks for posting the pics bubbyfrye...those look like the same type as the pic from Mac's. Looks good!

Re: how about these tail lights??
Uante, I've seen a couple of Econos with two front ends on them so that you can't tell whether they coming or going. I wonder if those 62 Ford Galaxie taillights would fit where the headlights would go for the rear end of one of those double headed Econos???

Re: how about these tail lights??
I was wondering about these tail lights that came on one of my Econolines. They must be the same Pontiacs.
uante - If you get LED bulbs, be sure to get the red ones and not the white (clear) ones. It did not make sense to me at first, but the clear ones do not have the extreme low and high light frequencies, and thus do not put out a lot of red light (and deep blue either). The red LEDs put out red light, and the red lens (Ford or Pontiac) will allow only the red light to go through it.

I got my Pontiac style lights the other day. Haven't put them on yet, but held them up to the van with the old ones out, Pretty sweet. A nice visual upgrade for not a lot of money

Re: how about these tail lights??
Thanks man, I spun them up on my lathe but mooneyes now sell 59 Caddy lights with mounting bases that may do the same thing cheaper and easier, need to call for diameter.
