The rubber bushes on mine were useless so I replaced them with small rose joints. The shift feels very positive now.

    Cheers,

What does the tranny mount bushing look like they tend to go bad after all those years. just keep scraping. year one should have the leaver bushing you need. look under valiant or duster they all should be the same. Can't make any nice job comments you already did that.

Some of the stuff (locating parts, fab tips and tricks to redo parts that arnt made anywhere)I rely on you guys....without your interest in these vans.....WE'RE FKD.
The MAIN reason I get this motormouth runnin is for the responses and comraderie....If we can get this 170/a903 back to full strength....we'd like to make some runs were some of you take your vans...thats one of our main points for buyin this van in the first place, other then the fact that the minute I sat in this van man,I was HOOKED.

    Yea Dodge man...tru enough
doing the tranny was the filthiest and most enjoyable thing to clean!
I look forward to doing the rest of the cleaning chores and brake components replacement....I wan't to KNOW this van, make mistakes and learn from em'
the biggest thing I want to learn is how the electrical system works and how to read a wiring diagram..I looked at one and had NO idea what the hell I was going to do about learning it!

LOL! I LOVE elect diagrams! They're like some kids puzzle, and a kids menu maze all at the same time. They tell you almost everything you want to know! In fact I need to find one too! Just learned my book doesnt have one in it! WTF? Anyway, there's a little legend thing on most diagrams bro. That'll tell you the wire color designation used in the diagram. Then just use what ya know about cars rel=relay, sol=solenoid , gnd=ground etc. Once youfigure thos ekinds of things out it gets pretty easy! Then you can sit there and stare at knowing what it says and your friends think you're an automotive genius! lol. Doesnt say much for my friends car repair skills tho haha!

I'll look at a 66 or so diagram once I find one...take a look at it and see if I can make any sense of it..I didn't grow up around anyone who had an interest in working on/maintaining vehicles..I'm 35 and I've just started doing maintanence in the last year or so with the old Chevy and now this good ol'A van..how about you? got any mechanical backround?

A little bit, lol. My second earliest memory is sitting on the valve cover of my dads 56 chevy. He gave me a 1/4 wrench so i could help him tighten things. Thats all my little hands could work easily, lol. I was tightening things like the spark plug wires and the air cleaner stud haha. Ive been building my own cars pretty much ever since. I became a ASE tech for abit, but realized that wrenchign for a living was NOT for me. I would work on cars at work, go home work on cars repeat repeat... I got burnt out. So I took a mechanical hiatus for a year, found another job and was soon back with a vengance. Pretty soon I found myself living in the ghetto with no garage and no driveway and a stable of 7 cars. My exwife said I loved cars more than her. haha she was right! Sure aint a glory story, but you know what? I was happy!

Now I aint any genius by any standards, but I definitely have a specialty and its old school vehicles. If my girls modern car broke down, I would REALLY not want to work on it because I KNOW and im willing to admit that Ive let myself become a dinosaur. But hey, if it makes me money and happy? Im down. Now Im 35 and ive owned over 100 cars throuout the years. Work on it till its done, and trade it for another project! Certain ones Im keeping though, right now Ive got my 65 caddy hearse, my van as my daily, and my harley. My 68 winnebago is subject to my whims haha!
Im sure theres plenty more guys like me on this site... In fact, I think ive seen hard evidence of it! so no matter the questions im sure can be guided to not burn it down. Smile
