Generic radiator Question ? Empty Generic radiator Question ?

I'm trying to get my head around the idea of turning a normally cross flow radiator on its end. This Ford one for example:

Are the aluminum downflows built any differently than the X flows ?
I wouldn't be using the fill neck and the entire rad would be lower than the gooseneck on the engine, so what would be the difference?

Im wondering more about the 1" tube sizes in the after market ones.. I don't know , lol just thought Id get some opinions before I committed to anything. scratch

Crossflows radiators were build for the ever increasing engine sizes & higher Hp- all mfg's were doing at the tims- . Why? due to the water flows taking slightly longer to flow across instead of down(gravity also) therefore cooling was better and @ same time they added --?? Cooling shrouds!! We all thought @ the time =oH Boy - more crap to remove- when working on the engines!! Look @ what weve got today= affraid Mad so here we are - id keep the crossflow =like it is. Just look for a shroud if room permits??

Digz I hear ya I have a 440 6 pac in a challenger with a down flow and a shroud and it never get over 180. the rad on a 45 degree and a electric fan should not matter. I helped a neighbor on a 76 vette and factory rad was on about a 30 degree. Is the rad a 3 core?? more cores is better.

Im thinking of just the 2 core aluminum rad Dix, my layout is setting itself up for more surface running taller than wider and if an off the shelf one would work it would be tons cheaper than having one made what it looks like I have room for nicely is 22"W x 30" Long but stock stuff is 19" Tall and 30" wide. reason im thinking of turning it. I was playing with it today at the shop on layout but I didnt have a camera to take a good reference pic.
Yeah Bob that helps alot knowing that! It means it works !
