Transmission wont go into park Empty Transmission wont go into park

Post by Childwing Sun May 15, 2011 6:27 pm

So I was driving my 1966 supervan around the other day and need to accelerate quickly at one point. Soon after when starting out the engine would rev rather high before shifting into 2nd but otherwise felt fine. (the transmission is an automatic...) When I got to my destination it would not go into park. I can go through all the other gears but just will not go into park. I'm thinking/hoping that the linkage just slipped and needs to be readjusted. Any ideas or tips in diagnosing/fixing?

DIsconnect it down below and see if you can put it in park by turning the lever on the tranny. Like you said,it may have slipped adjustment.
