Post by Rayallen Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:14 pm

Finalized my purchase today. I am now the proud owner of a 1964 Econoline Panel van with the 170 6 cylinder motor 3 on the tree. Very Happy

Im in Texas and found the van in San Francisco, CA. Its all original, white paint and absolutely rock solid. No Rust-original California van! Its been well taken care of and has been in storage since 2003. The previous owner took it out of storage and replaced all the fluids, seal etc and its running well. I will need to clean the gas tank when it gets to me.

All thats left for me to do is arrange the shipping for a Auto Carrier and from what ive heard its going to be a Pain in the Ass, but its worth it.

Some pics that were sent to me, these will work untill it gets to my place and I get to clean, buff the paint and replace the tires.

Looks great...love the no windows...hope you get it home soon. Quick question though... when you say "all original", is that going off what the seller is telling you? why I am asking is... there is one side door with glass, bucket seats, green gauge cluster, and the rear bumper looks kinda heavy to me, or like it is cut and welded funny where the licence plate goes... Now I could be wrong on the bumper part, and I hope I didn't offend you...just lookin out for a fellow member is all. That van still looks really nice regardless.

Sorry when I said all original I should have said original metal. No metal has been cut or removed from the body and original paint. Wasnt talking much about the inside. I could tell you what makes a 1962 VW Bus different from a 1965 but with american vans I have no clue yet.

Keep seeing stuff about Vintage Air, need to get some more info on that.

I should say I have to learn how to drive all over again. Ive driven modern manuals 5-6 speeds and Manual classics but this is my 1st In-Column manual. A little nervous about it but im sure I figure it out. I found it ammusing that there are videos on youtube to showme how, haha.

Welcome to the Econo section of the club... 3 on the tree shifters are a breeze... they shift just like a floor shift if you look at them from the side... Shocked but seriously, I taught my son how to drive in my first Econo Have fun with it and make sure to post up more pics when it arrives....

I guess the glass in the side door and the moonroof were added before the person I bought it from, she bought it from someone in Los Altos, CA in the 90s. I dont mind so much, a little more light back there isnt going to hurt. From what I can see making these vans personal is what its all about. Planning on adding some bench seating and a small table in the back after I por15 the floor and ad some kind of flooring.

    Congrats!

I'm (relatively) local to that one and was hoping to go look at it this weekend.
I guess I'm free to make other plans now. Wink

Hope the shipping is pain-free and the van gives you many years of happiness.

Thanks Guys, im stoked- cant wait to touch it.

As far as my plans for it. Going to be a daily driver for fun. Camping- hell yeah! Will make basic changes at first- Buff out the paint and wax, New tires and wheels, lower it in the front by a leafsping, clean up the motor and gas tank. Interior completely redone in the cargo area. Going to be fun.

Shipping has been lined up and should be picked up anywhere from 1-10 days.

I have that same single side window in my Œ64 and find it indispensable when I need to see what's coming to the right of me.

Good to know, do you know if the single window was original to the 64. If seen a few picturs with the single window on the side of a Eco Panel. Where can I find the specs on what each year had and did not have?

My side door with the window was a rear door from another van. My little photo to the right shows the Œ64 in the front of the lineup as it was originally. The Œ65 in the rear of the lineup has side door windows that were also from the rear of another van, and the rest of the windows are painted on. (It's a long story.)

got a email today from the previous owner telling me she found some more paper work and the original owners manual. Sweet!

Found the original owners info to, It says the original owner was the Company Rex Floor Covering, 844 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park, CA. The dealers name was Lutz Ford Dealership in Palo Alto. Van pretty much stayed in the same area of California.

Neither open anymore but its cool to have that history on the van.

Im happy with that. Lets see how long it takes to get here, estimated delivery time this coming week Smile

Actually happened to a buddy of mine, DEA and Border Patrol had all kinds of cutting equipment. Metal panels cut open like a giant can opener, upholstery cut open, 2 tires cut, PLUS his camping gear. They left it out all over the ground, it was up to him to get it out of their area...

...the guy's a full-on Christian doesn't even drink, just the luck of the draw I guess.
