Bridger's First Van Resto Empty Bridger's First Van Resto

Post by WyoVanBridger Mon Oct 23, 2017 9:10 pm

    Hello Everyone!
My name is Bridger, I'm 17 and I am currently doing my first full restoration. This summer I was fishing down by a local river and saw this old chevy van. I immediately went and tried to figure out who owned it. Long story short they guy wasn't ready to sell it. I then talked to this same guy about a month ago and the time came for him to part with it. Alas I got the van and have been steadily working on it ever since. After rebuilding the carb, flushing and cleaning the fuel tank and replacing every single rubber piece on the van I have got it running and driving. So this is where I am now. I figured it would be a good idea to keep track of the progress as well as find a place where I can ask people for help along the way.
    Thank You, Enjoy the ride

    Thank You everyone!

Yesterday at about 10:00 I got the old girl running and driving. The next phase of the project will be tackling the electrical. Sometime during its hibernation someone had the bright idea to cut the entire fuse box out, so none of the electrical is working. However it should be a relatively easy fix due to the simplicity of these old things.

One thing i was curious about is what people are running for wheel and tire setups. I am looking for something muscly but not sure about specs.

Thanks for any help you can give

One more thing I forgot to mention. One of my friends at school is going to be hand painting the van. Here is the glovebox lid that she for me so far!

Welcome aboard Bridger, you're now the second person I know with that name!

Wait a minute...you saw a van down by the River??? Sounds like an SNL skit to me!lol! https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Chris+Farley+Van+Down+by+the+River&&view=detail&mid=A9870837DA7E294005A5A9870837DA7E294005A5&FORM=VRDGAR

It's Fantastic to see a young man interested in these Vintage Gems!

I think having your friend paint the van will make it Unique and will make it your own...I love these touches because that's part of the fun of owning one.

Judging from all the "stuff' under the van in the 3rd pic, it looks like you've done quite a bit of cleaning too! Keep up the Great work, you've gotten quite a bit done already!

Ya it really was quite like SNL! My parents thought the same thing!
As far as the cleaning of the van it sure is amazing what a weed sprayer full of royal purple will do!

Great job! I admire your taste in vans too! You will be an expert by the time you finish your van.
I was a real beginner and I still am... but I have had some great help and I really worked hard to get my van worthy!!
I look forward to seeing more pictures!
