WORK LIGHT IN THE ENGINE BAY

Post by dix on Mon Feb 07, 2011 2:30 pm

Has anyone installed a light in the dog house in case you would need it out on the hi-way @ night. my thoughts are to use a old dome light on the inside lid. hopng to never need it. like our cars have, it's beter than a flashlight.

One of the neatest OE underhood lights I seen were on 80s-up Ford trucks. They had a light in a small case with a reeled cord. You could lift the hood, grab the light and move it around under the hood, then wind the cord back up and snap the light back in place.
Here's what it looks like, along with some other parts....

My front dome light is one of those. I can remove it and go completely all around the van. It has a 25 ft cord. Would be handy in case of a flat tire

    cool idea Smile

I just keep an LED flashlight in the ashtray for now but the under lid thing would be cool, need to add that to my list...

I have an led headlamp that I use all the time. It's nice because it's always shining where I'm looking. When I'm not using it, I hang it on the side of the doghouse under the driver's seat with a magnet.

I was considering installing some of that flexible led tubing around the inside of the doghouse, though. It's weatherproof and doesn't require much power to operate, so it won't kill my battery if the van is not running.
