    Top 10 Improvements

Post by Farmer on Mon Jan 24, 2011 9:29 am

In the never ending quest to make my van a safer, more reliable, dependable and comfortable vehicule, I'd like to have your thoughts on the top ten improvements you've done or are going to do to your van.
Thanks to help from Donivan, I've installed a fusible link on my wiring harness....big safety item we should all have. More items on my list are elec ignition, gen2 mater cylinder, disc brakes, a timed fan, throttle cable, sway bar, motor box insulation, weather stripping, alternator, new fuse panel, oil/temp/battery gauges, and the list goes on.
So, share your thoughts, your changes you've made, and lets make our vans safer and more dependable than they were 40 some years ago when they were manufactured.

For most of us, it's a task just to get it back to where they were!!!
I find that fire and crashes are the top of the "TO AVOID" list, so I'd start with upgrades to wiring and brakes.
Depending on how the van is to be used, suspension would be next. This would include any upgrades to the wheel/tire package.
Even in good stock condition, these weren't sealed very well. Make sure you are not pulling fumes inside!
After that, make sure you can see and be seen with good lighting and a charging system that can power them.

This assumes that the fuel system, wiring, and gaskets to prevent leaks are all in good shape. Also, nothing is going to fall off or break. Like I said, getting them back to OE is the first and toughest part of the plan.
