I've been shopping around for new front shocks and all I have found is the pressurized gas type.
This has been true for the three brands that I looked at, all of them were nitrogen charged. I found
on another type of vehicle that I liked the smooth ride of regular oil-filled shocks better than the
choppy ride of the pressure shocks.

Is pressurized gas the stock configuration?

    Thanks in advance,
    George

I think that the shock mfgrs all went to that design due to it being more popular. They were not OE design.

"In 1978, Gabriel introduced the first gas charged shock absorber developed and produced in the U.S. Struts were added to the product line in the early 1980’s and the company became a strong competitor worldwide."

These are the low line numbers, most likely to be non-gas.

Thanks RodStRace, exactly what I needed to know.

Anything pre-'78 will use conventional shocks.

I installed a set of Monroe Gas Magnums a couple of weeks ago. At first the ride did seem a little harsh. Put about 1500 miles on it since then and now that I'm use to them, I'm glad I went that route! The van seems to handle much better, even on the twisty Arkansas mountain roads.
