    carb problems Empty carb problems

    Post by 66vanman Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:39 am

hay guys well i just bought a 1966 ford falcon and i am having problems with the carb. im not sure what carb it is due to there are no # stamped on it. i have a straight 6 170 in it. well what is happening i think the throttle plate is bottoming out becouse my gas peddle only gose down about a 1/4 of what it should do. i am thinking that i my main body gasket is to thin or there should be a spacer in there. dose anyone have am advice or has had the same problem? thanks

What happens if you move the throttle open by hand (at the carb)? Does it go all the way open or does it hang in the same place the gas pedal hangs at?

If it goes all the open open just readjust the cable, if it hangs like the pedal you'll have to see "where at". The intake opening should be big enough to the let the throttle plate move freely so maybe something is in the way (gasket?) or like you said, the carb is assembled incorrectly.

Picts of the carb would help.

mine did that.... apparently my carb is off another vehicle... I had to loosen the hold down bolts and move the carb and retighten it in a position where it didn't jam up

This pic has details that are different from any other diagrams I've seen for the Ford 1101. If it's roughly the same, it's good to go with. The ones for a standard only has the Accel Pump dashpot lever thing, where the ones for the Automatic is like this with the anti-stall.Where did you find this diagram donivan?

,,,,,,,,in the carburetor section of my 1973 Motors Manual,,,,,,,there are a lot of different models of Ford Carburetors and different systems on them depending on if it has a manual or automatic trans,,,,,manual or automatic choke or smog equipment,,,,,,,so that is just one model of carb found on a Ford,,,,,,someone could of installed a newer model or different brand carb on it, so it's just a starting point to help us identify the carb and get us on the same page......

There should be a spacer underneath the carb, with the heater lines running through it... it preheats the intake charge when warming up, and actually works as a heat sink when engine bay temps are high.

If you have a three-on-the-tree, then your carb should only have the accel pump dashpot. I am almost certain this is a diagram for your carb.
