My new 1966 Chevrolet Empty My new 1966 Chevrolet

Post by redsockss Sun Jun 13, 2010 4:16 pm

I have been posting all over this site. What an awesome site. I actually found this van from this site. Anyway, I bought her for $4400.00. It was dropped off at Deano's Auto Works in Phoenix. He's a real high end painter. They did my Red Sox themed motorcycle. If you're into bikes, just Google Red Sox motorcycle and you'll find her. I'm going to have this van match my bike sort of. Silver exterior paint. The amazing news is that Deano looked at it and told me that it didn't have a speck of rust ANYWHERE on this van. So, he's going to bead blast it and bring her back to better than her birth.

I eventually want to drop a crate 350 and a 200R transmission in her. By me, I mean a good mechanic that hasn't been found yet. Anyone know a good place in the San Francisco bay Area?

Here's what is going to be done right away:

    1. Bead blast and paint
    2. Replace all the rubber because it's dryer than an 80 year old hooker according to Deano
    3. Paint her a silver and maybe a twotone silver, haven't decided yet because I haven't seen her yet.
    4. Wrap her in new Cragar SS wheels and tires. (Anyone know the largest tire rubber combo I can get under the wheel wells with no scraping?
    5. Replace the West Coast mirrors with some regular mirrors. Anyone have any ideas there?
    6. Probably put a 2nd generation doghouse in it now for prep. of the 350 crate engine.

I will do the rest of the stuff as I go I guess. Here are some photos of the rust free queen.

I couldn't figure out how to add photos.

Nice van, the west coasts alot of guys are looking for, so selling them shouldn't be a problem. They are one of the better seeing mirrors. Cragars always look great on all early vans. I would say before you jump into all what you want to do to it I would drive her around and have some fun first. Painting motor swaps finding parts always takes longer than you think

I dont mind not having it for awhile. I for sure want the paint wheels and chrome done before I start driving her. Besides, I live in CA. and purchased in in AZ. and the body shop I'm using is in AZ.

Nice. Is that a mettalic silver? These vans look good in that color.

Look forward to seeing it back together.
