Another run up to atlanta to summit racing picked up the edelbrock for the 250 and a trip to the junk yard for some 250 parts ( water pump pulley, alternator bracket, valve cover...started cleaning the parts and sandblasting... the valve cover had a few dozen pin holes from rust the sand blaster found....found a mercruiser valve cover at another junk yard and the owner is shipping it friday..did some trial fitting of parts before painting...i=187&u=15131473][/url][url=https://servimg.com/image_preview.php?

Re: 1966 g van has a new home
I have one on my '69.Found it on ebay from a guy sellin boat parts. The only drawback is the Merc cover is about l<---->l that much too tall for the original breather, which I really wanted to run.I'd like to have found the finned sidecovers though. The look cool.

Re: 1966 g van has a new home
they are Taylor pro series #73647 from Summit Racing...they are cut to fit. Getting the wires thru the boots is a bit tricky..they say to use wd40 but grease and plenty of it works much better (fill the boot with liberally)..crimping the ends was easy if you have the the right crimping tool. The wife asked WHY BLUE ? My answer WHY NOT ?

Re: 1966 g van has a new home
Found the valve cover in a junk yard in Poulan Ga. There is a company out of Seattle that you can order parts for Mercruiser engines ...Seaway marine...they are real nice folks ...I ordered the breather oil filler cap from them. The can get some of the obsolete parts as well...If someone is wanting a mercruiser valve cover Tom Langdon (langdons stovebolt) has a few last time I spoke with him..he sells them for 80 bucks.. Seaway has them for 155 new...

Re: 1966 g van has a new home
For anyone considering this combo ( clifford headers and intake ) It took me some time to get the right combination of bolts, studs, washers and nuts to complete the trial fitting. The 1st 3rd 4th 5th 6th and 8th I used a 3/8 x 16 x 1 1/4 stud with 3/8 x 20 threads. The 2nd and 7th whole I used 3/8 x 16 x 1" cap head bolt ( the 2 locations you could not get a 9/16 boxed and wrench on ) under each nut or bolt head is a 3/8 lock washer and 3/8 flat washer and a 7/16 flat washer. Except for 1 and 8 eliminate the 7/16 washer ( not needed )

Re: 1966 g van has a new home
Took the dash completely apart....sanded the outer bezel with wet or dry 400, the 600, the 900...used a buffing wheel to bring it to a shine..the some never-dull wading cloth....cleaned the speedo lexan with plastic polish the stuff used to keep the new car headlight lenses clean..the gauge faces where pretty clean used a microfiber rag gently on the faces and painted the needles with fluorecent orange model paint...
