Leaf Spring Source

Post by Digz on Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:26 am

Just thought I would pass this on,
I did some calling and found out that State Spring Service in Grand rapids MI. still has prints for making springs for my 65. sounds like 650$ will get all four, a 6 and 7 leaf combination for stock. Their number is 1-800-727-8729.
Now, if I can get time to get there!

I want to also give them a wee bit more arch to help insure some tire clearance, and maybe add for the V-8 auto wieght.

When they eat through the insert pocket, they are done for,,,,,,but a 4wd shop should be able to make up new leafs just the way you want it,,,,

They set me up with new bushings, the spring eye bushings were in place, they sent me a bag of harris bros bushings for the shackles, I had to trim off about 1/4 of an inch on one side of each pair to make them fit okay.

Most medium to larger cities still have "Spring shops" that will make any leaf spring or re-arch or repair them.

Acme Spring is still around I think in a lot of locals.

Or at least I think. Been about 5 years since I had need of a spring shop.

Id think you'd be right crazee ,, this shop has done our heavy trucks over the years. Just didnt have a reason to ask them about small stuff til I got the van. made me happy when they said " think we still have the prints around for those".

Front spring arch

Just this little bit has maxed out the stock shocks, about 2 1/2 " beyond stock ( thats what I was aiming at anyway) , But it hasnt been driven to get everything settled into place yet. I made my own shackles so the bushings are a still snug.

A little late to the thread..

Scott wrote:Before putting anymore into this I decided to at least see what the cost would be to have the old ones repaired.

Fort Worth Champion Spring Services
1117 Henderson St
Fort Worth, TX 76102
(817) 332-2115

They re-arch and add one leaf to get the height back.

If I just bring in the springs. (Back: $160 / Front: $200)

If I bring in the van. (Whole Job: $800)

Looks like I'm still in the do-it-myself option.
