i am now convinced a mid engine van is the way to go for my mini bike hauler, i think an 8 door would be nice to show the mini bike from all three sides and let more light in with out having to take it out to show it at cruise in's.
of the three van brands which ones came in 8 door cargo versions?

In looking for wheels I see there seem to be standard sizes of 13 1/2" & 15" with dish depths of 2" to 4" (and in between). (I only started looking.)

How are the wheels measured? Inside or outside dimensions? Depth from bottom of rim to top of hub? Any suggestions for a good size to use? I would like a wood rim wheel, but its not mandatory.

I am thinking about having two batteries. One dedicated to running the lights, starter, etc, and the other for stereo and other accessories. Is there a way to wire it up so that if one or the other battery dies I can flip a switch over to the 2nd one? Like if I had a dead main battery, and it wouldn't start, I could use the back-up. Or switch the secondary over to main duty in order to have the alternator charge it?

Woo Hoo! Dropped my '64 econo off at the paint shop on Monday. Color is picked out, and I've stripped everything I could remove off of it. It'll probably be there a month or so, but progress is going to be visible now! The guys at the shop, who I know very well, are psyched about this project too, which helps with the fun. I'll post some pictures when I have them. Just thought I'd share.

This is exactly the kind of van I started to look for 2 years ago. It's been stored inside for a very long time.

I just started stripping the many layers of paint off my '66 Dodge Sportsman. This paint job is going to lead to a lot of work and cash. I have a '65 Sportsman that I can drive around the block, but the body's pretty far gone. I had my guys on reduced hours ...

I finally got a chrome bumper for my 65 Econo, It was just chromed and is in perfect condition. It is one for a 64 Econo though so it has the place for a license plate. I am thinking of putting a Route 66 plate on it and keeping the regular license plate on the rear door. I need the two stock license plate lights that go on the bumper though.

I got this rear sway bar off a 83 Firebird. It looks like it has the potential for mounting on vans. It has 2 U bolts that hold it on the rear end and 2 brackets that mount the links to the frame. So drill 4 holes in the frame and you are done. But you probably need to make a couple of adjustments to mount it. My van is jacked up so I need longer links or have to build some brackets to reach down from the frame to mount that link bracket.
